Would you like to combine your holiday with a creative experience — making one or more baskets or another weaving project, while also exploring the surroundings and getting to know Czechia and traditional Czech dishes? Then this is a unique opportunity!
It doesn’t matter whether you’re a beginner or already have some experience. There’s also plenty of time built in to take a break and rest your hands.
During the Summer Weaving Week, you’ll get to know different weaving techniques, and there is time and space to create several small baskets or one larger one. Think of a log basket, harvest basket, handbag, dog bed, picnic basket, doll pram, or decorative baskets.
Before the weaving week begins, we’ll be in touch to discuss what you’d like to make, tailored to your wishes and experience. We’ll weave with willow: either unpeeled Belgian Red or Salix Americana. For decorative details, peeled and buffed rods are also available.
The daily program runs from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, so there’s plenty of time left for an afternoon walk, dinner at a local restaurant (a good meal nearby costs about €10 per person), or watching a Czech film (with English subtitles) in our attic studio.
Besides weaving, we’ll also make time for optional activities like a local walk (maybe we’ll find mushrooms to forage or gather natural materials to incorporate into your basket) or a short excursion to one of the many castles in the area.
There will be one free day during the week, allowing you more time to explore the region. On the final evening, we’ll close the week together with a home-cooked dinner — dietary needs can of course be accommodated.
In a peaceful location in the rolling hills of Czechia, I’ve set up my attic weaving studio in our home in Dvorec, Chyše. It’s about 800 km from Utrecht and easy to reach by car via Germany. Once you cross the border into Czechia, it’s less than an hour’s drive.
You can also travel by train, bus, or plane. In that case, you would travel via Prague and take a bus to Lubenec, a small nearby town — we can pick you up from the bus stop.
There are plenty of accommodations in the area. We have contacts with various hotels, holiday homes, guesthouses, farm stays, and campsites. Prices per person per night range from approx. €15 to €75, depending on the type of accommodation.
We also have one guest room with a private bathroom available in our home, which can be rented by 1 or 2 participants.
The price for the full week is €550, including all materials and use of tools.
Each day we’ll provide a fresh lunch, coffee, tea, water, lemonade, some treats, and the farewell dinner on the last evening.
I prefer working with small groups, so you’re guaranteed personal guidance and attention — maximum of 6 participants per week.
